816005673 Final Year Project Logbook

 ENTRY 12  A meeting was conducted with my supervisor, Dr. Ojha to ensure that I was on the correct track in terms of my concept designs and other areas of chapter 3 concerning the methodology.  Discussions in terms of the following topics were done :  - QFD chart: the qfd chart is an analysis too that used a compilation of metrics to identify the most competitive and highly rated concept to be selected and further developed. This analysis showed in its preliminary stages that concept 3 would be more suitable for the needs and objectives of the project.  The image below shows some written analysis and areas to be considered during the QFD analysis .  - Completion and finalization of my concepts and methodology figures . 

 ENTRY #11  A small meeting was conducted with Dr.Ojha to confirm deadlines such as the pre-submission of my Solidworks generated concepts and final design drawing. This was determined to be October the 31st.  Survey analysis was also discussed and it was advised to add Mean , median, and mode values into my survey analysis to ensure proper analytics are shown to justify later in the QFD chart.  Another meeting was arranged to get more in detail with studies. Questions such as :  - If 3 concepts were enough  -Are critical dimensions to be shown in all drawings  -2nd of November to be a good date for my first draft of the preliminary report  This meeting was scheduled for the 29th of October. 

 ENTRY #10 We must now complete chapter 3 that consists of the following headings :  -Presentation of Methodology  -Project Structure  -Survey analysis  -Needs analysis matrix  -Functional decomposition  -Concept selection  All these sections use the data collected from both the survey analytics, literature review findings, and general research to appropriately select the concepts generated. These concepts were also being modeled in Solidworks throughout this time frame. The modeled concepts can be found in the Concepts tab of this blog .  Below shows a written notes on how i am going to approach chapter 3 

 ENTRY #9  After completion of both chapter 1 and chapter 2 the analysis of this data collected must now be done.  Using this information and the knowledge of my supervisor we now can discuss the generation of concepts in terms of their features and what materials to be used. The survey results were also taken into consideration and discussed with the supervisor.  The following images are sketches of the generated concepts : 

 ENTRY #8  Chapter 2 other wise know as the Literature review is now to be completed. The best way inwhich to get a general idea of the field the machine is to be operating in we must look at previous work done in this area along with studies done that concern the same area . The break down of the literature review is as follows : Introduction to literature review , basic workshop operations , multipurpose tools , summary and lastly patent reviews .  This considered the best format as it studies the environment of the workshop section in manufacturing , covers the possible or previous multipurpose tool market and then reviews and critiques previous patents .  Patents reviewed :  Patent 1  l  Title : Automatic cutting and punching machine Patent Number : CN104249397A Inventor : Wu Jinming Publishing Date : 2014.12.31 The advantages and disadvantages of this was also identified to be :  Advantages - Accurate           ...

 ENTRY # 7 Chapter 1 has been completed and entered into my preliminary report. Referring to the project schedule Gantt chart we can identify that the next area of work would be that of the literature review and to complete this we must first find articles or other sources of information with relation to that of this project's aim. This is then started. 

 ENTRY #6  Chapter one of the preliminary report is now to be started as adequate research has been done as well as the objects and aim of the project have been identified.  Chapter 1 consists of the following headings: Introduction, Project summary, background, justification, aim, objectives, and project scope.  Most of these heading have been identified already and is just to be refined and inputted into the report . The other sections such as the introduction and project summary, the research that was already done earlier were used to complete these parts.
