 Concepts Generated and Final Design

Concept 1

This configuration is small in overall area and volume and houses a drill , sander and grinder . It runs on a singular medium voltage , driving dual shafts using pulleys , capable of a maximum of 1500 rpm however is not variable therefore runs at maximum rpm at all time . This concept also doesn't include a cutting wheel therefore may be at a disadvantage in comparison to the other concepts . Made of steel this frame and build would be robust but heavy therefore reducing its portability.

Concept 2

This configuration is the largest and contains the most work surface area therefore its base area and volume is the largest of the three concepts. It houses a grinding disk and a mechanically operated hacksaw blade . A low voltage variable motor capable of 800 rpm is used however this concept does not have a drill operation . The construction of concept 2 is made of a wooden top along with an aluminum frame which decreases its overall weight but makes the machine prone to damages as these materials are not very strong .

Concept 3

Lastly this configuration is larger than concept 1 yet smaller than concept 2 in dimensions while maintaining a large enough workable surface whiles housing a elevated drill system , sanding wheel and interchangeable grinding wheel and a integrated  cutting saw blade. Its constructed out of a mild steel frame and a wooden work surface while also having an addition of castor wheels to improve its portability . It has a brush-less ,variable speed motor that has a range of 0-1700 rpm . This concept also includes features such as a safety shield to prevent harm to user.

Final Concept selected and Critical dimensions

Concept 3 was selected due to its rating in the QFD chart being the best of the three as well as achieving all the customer needs and project aim.
