Title: Machine 


As a multipurpose mechanical machine to be produced on completion of this project we must first define what a machine is first. According to this article, a machine can be defined as "having a unique purpose, that augments or replaces human or animal effort for the accomplishment of physical tasks ", This is true as most machines do replace most human labor as well as have a specified task however where this article is limited, the article focuses on the machine having one assigned task, for example, a printer only used to make copies of software work. This is a limited definition as most printers can photocopy as well . This can be directly seen in the manufacturing tools industry as there is a growing market for machines that do not have be focused tasks.

Title : Trends in Multipurpose machines 


From a study conducted by Dr. Toshimichi Moriwaki he focused on recent trends in machine technology(“Trends in Machinetools PDF.” Scribd.2006). He conducted a survey from the view points of high speed and high performance machine tools, combined multifunctional machine tools, ultra precision machine tools and advanced and intelligent control technologies. This is interesting as it shows that inn comparison to the past , machinery are more versatile creating a demand in growth and further research into making machinery more multipurpose in his place of study being Japan , this being the home of some off the largest manufacturing companies in the world . However this research falls short as it focuses on larger scale machinery such as automated lathes and multipurpose furnaces where as this project is aimed to a smaller and medium scale manufacturing services .

In comparison to similar designs this machine uses a mechanical hacksaw for its cutting operation instead of conventional cutting blades .

The project aims at designing and developing a multipurpose machine tool which is capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously. The machine is operated by giving drive to the main shaft to which worm gear mechanism is directly attached; worm gear mechanism is used for sawing operation. On the main shaft bevel gear mechanism was used for transmitting power. These bevel gears are used to transmit motion in the radial direction and drives the drilling center. The Grinding wheel is directly connected to the motor shaft. This model facilitates to complete three operations simultaneously with a single power source.
